Rear of the tires hits the leafs. I can't in-board the springs anymore b/c the drivers perch is as close to the chunk as possible. I guess I should have gotten ~2" of backspacing instead of 3.5" with 8" wheels and 38's. If they suck/are really weak I'll throw them on e-bay. But I'm hoping that'll fix my turning radius and it'll knock me out to ALMOST full-width, which would make me happy.

RockRanger has the same problem with his leafsprung front. He's talking about getting spacers, too.

I had the same problem with 8" wheels and my 36" TSL's.

why does everyone have such a problem with wheel spacers? they are used so you wont rub your tires on your r/a or sway bars, or in this case leaf springs, there is nothing wrong with them. anyway good luck with your spacers 034x4 hope they work for you

because spacers are half ass (no offense) they can break, even the good ones and put a LOT in jepordy ESPECIALLY on a daily driver. Jey has done a lot of really nice things, pumped in a lot of money and wheel spacers are just kinda ghetto. not kinda, they are ghetto. no offense jey. i mean i dont know what else to offer you, i guess its sort of a last option but i guess a lottle more planning shoulda been done.

sorry about bein an a-hole on this one, i guess mistakes are made by all and im sure ill make a ton, but come on, WHEEL SPACERS?!?!?!

supergildo you forgot the [Rant] flag on that.. nothing wrong with the spacers..i'll using them most likely. dont want to but wont hesitate if i have to. Nice job on the build so far man. do what works and that you feel is safe.

I dont know about all spacers, but I have seen them work just fine in multiple uses, I believe Rick is still running them on the pumkin, at least he was at one time, a friend of mine has run them on his stang that he dd's and drags about twice a month running slicks with no problems. I am not a big fan of them but when they are needed and checked occasionaly, what the hell, beats bying new wheels! by the way AWESOME rig!

Well when I get them and run them. We'll see how they hold up and how "ghetto" they really are, considering a whole ****-load of people run them. There is no difference b/t the spacers and running wheels with very little backspacing besides the extra bolts.

The only other kind of "planning" that could have possibly been done is to run smaller tires or less backspacing. Which really is not a whole lot more "planning".

Like I said and I'll say it again, i'll SEE HOW THEY WORK. If they fawking break then they break! If they don't then they served their purpose. and besides, this'll pull my locking hubs back behind the outer most portion of the wheel/tire away from harm.

Wheel spacers = $100
Custom width axle = $1000 plus

Leaf springs are ghetto as well but they work. Where the problems are with wheel spacers is that they can add more stress to the wheel bearings and increace the scrub radius on the front end which incress the resistece in steering. However none of these are any worse then running a heavely offset rim. I run 4" off set rims. a 1.5" spacer would be like running a 2.5" backspaced rim as far as stress and scrub radius are concerned. That is usually considered acceptable. One nice thing with doing it with wheel spacers instead of a offset rim is you dont end up with a reversed rim. If you are already running a 2.5" backspaced rim and you add a 2" spacer then your front end is going be hating life as will that super quite ford powersteering pump  Just make sure that the extra 10 lugnuts stay tight and are a quality spacer and you should be fine.

Where are you getting your spacers? I need some ghetto wheel spacers for my front axle as well so i can run them with my ghetto rear spacers I already run.

So tell me how a spacer is dangerous? As long as you arent running an excessively large spacer there is no way they are dangerous.

Are the lug nug nuts, hubs, etc not meant to have a round chunck of steel bolted to them?

What if the wheel were designed with a spacer on it so the lug nuts sat down in a hole on the wheel?

Same thing as a shallower backspacing, yes more leverage is on the hub, yes it will wear parts faster, yes the scrub radius will be worse, yes the turning radius will improve if it prevents rubbing.... So overall i dont see how it is any mroe dangerous than running a 2" BS wheel.

Jey just sent me a pic of his new spacers, so I started a thread for them. They look like they'll hold up great :D: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=152672

I've heard that as long as you purchase good quality spacers, there isn't a problem with them. Seeing as how everything else was awesome quality/brand, I'm sure the ones you got were too, so I don't see a problem with em.

yeah there is... one is oe(ish) spec and the other has a big peice of metal between the hub and rim...

2 inches is pretty big.

hey im not buyin them, go ahead and run them. i have heard of spacer horror stories with the quality machined kind even. just because something works ok the first 99 times, doesnt mean that the 100th time will be fine too. just be safe i guess and check the torque specs on em every month.

and to everyone who got hurt and mad cause i said the word ghetto, dont get panties in wad, ill say fabulous instead of ghetto from now on

btw jey, i still love you and i hope this doesnt affect the trip that you make to help me when i start my sas. lol

Ha lol gil.

The spacers are from trailsport 4x4. They are a vendor on pirate and have sold a **** load of adapters/spacers on there as well. I searched and did not come up with any horror story threads about spacers on there.

Hell I DD trailready beadlocks people say the same thing about that as they do spacers. Don't do it, they won't work, it's illegal bla bla bla. All I have to do is keep up with the torque on them, just like I do the beadlock bolts.

BTW, fullwidth axles ARE made out of platinum.
