The Overdrive light started blinking this morning and then it started upshifting from second to third gear very hard. What's up with this?

When I got back in the car after work, problem gone.

My '02 did exactly this yesterday when I drove it. I don't know if it's better today, my wife is driving it and we only live a quarter-mile from her workplace anyhow.

I am very anxious to hear what others have to say on this.

Ours hasn't done it again since that morning but it is certainly disconcerting. My wife is the primary driver and works 18 miles from home.

Having the same problem it doesn't want to **** out of first gear until the rpms are at about3500. Got it on the rack now. I'll keep you posted let me know if you guys know anything. Seems electrical keeping my fingers crossed. I know if I were to take it to ford they would instantly wanna replace the tranny

When our '02 did this the tranny was toast.

Unless you are under warranty, I wouldn't have a Ford dealer replace it. Do a search on the forum. There is a lot of good information about how to get it fixed.

If I had it to do over again, I would have and independent shop rebuild it with a sleeve kit.

Good luck.

Sounds like overdrive servo piston problem.

One thing led to another today and I didn't even get started. It's sitting on the rack waiting for me 2morrow morning. I'll run the codes and let you all know what I come up with 2morrow. I finally had it in the garage yesterday to let it thaw out. Then this happened on my way home last night after it sat in the cold for 4 plus hours. So I'm being optimistic and still hoping electrical keeping my fingers crossed. Good luck to you guys 2 and I'll keep ya posted

The "check engine" light finally came on today and the computer said it was a pressure control solenoid A, which controls the shift into overdrive. Part is $74 at Advance. Anybody put one of these on before? Is it inside the tranny or out? Advance guys brought up a pic on the computer & thought it looked like it would be out.

Sounds like overdrive servo piston problem.

OD band is APPLIED is 2nd. gear, and RELEASES during 2-3 shift (5R55S, W). Could you mean the RELEASE is delayed due to servo piston binding?

I thought usually (!) the servo APPLY is most often at fault, due to broken piston, leaks, etc.

Thanks! I know you are most knowledgeable about these things. imp
