Fog lights stay on when brights/high beams are engaged.
**Do this mod at your own risk. I take no responsibility if you mess something up or violate any laws with performing this mod.**
First, verify your fog light relay location. (Refer to owners manual.) The pictures used here are on my 04 Sport Trac Adrenalin.
This is how I decided to do the mod my 04 sport trac instead of cutting and splicing wires inside the cab. (Google the 2004+ Ranger version of this mod to get an idea of how they do it.)
Cost: roughly $15. (For the relay, harness, and spade connectors.)
There is only 1 relay for the fog light circuit as opposed to 2 for 03 and older explorers. (Previous mod was to modify a relay (Fog light isolation relay) that turns off the fog lights when the brights are engaged. That 2nd relay is no longer a part of this system for 04+ sport tracs and rangers)
Ford disables the fog light relay circuit by changing the ground of the source for the relay to a positive signal when the high beams are engaged, thus deactivating the relay circuit. (Smaller spade plugs on the OEM relay)
To override this, I used spade terminals and a standalone generic relay and harness to make the ground of the source circuit a permanent ground. (Find a screw close to your battery fuse panel. I spliced in a circle crimp connector on the BLACK wire and attached it to one of the bolts that holds the fuse box to the fender.)
Your fog light switch on the dash still toggles on and off the fog lights when pulled out our pushed in, but the fogs will now stay on even when the high beams are turned on, unless you turned the fogs off by pushing the headlight switch back in.
To revert back to the original circuit routing, just remove the spade terminals and replace with the original Ford relay - Simple!
