04 X max towing??

A v8 X 4x4 can tow 7000# but a tiny footnote in the back of the brochure says to subtract 500# if you get the aux ac&heat.

A call to MyFord redirected me to a dealer which has not helped.

It seems to be VIN related.

How can you configure a 04 X for maximum towing capacity?

id imagine that if it is using the bumper a tow point that limits it a bit plus ud have to make sure the tounge weight was as little as possible iwth the X

To get max. towing capacity, you need to not get the Auxilary A/C and heat for the rear and get the Class III/IV tow package. I also recommend not getting the 3rd row seat if you are going to tow that much. My guess is the engine can't run both A/Cs and tow a load that large at the same time.

Here in the Wash DC area all the X's with V8 are all upscale with 3rd row and Aux Seat.

What is up with the Advance Control Trac? It seems like a neat thing but most of the upscale X's don't have it.

forddirect.com required you to put in a zip code and only shows those Ford Dealers nearest you. I would love the ability to search for a X with only the V8 in the mid-atlantic or larger area.
