2005 Ford Explorer
Alright, so I've noticed that through the 02-05 models there were some serious issues with the wheel bearings. So here we go... I have a 2005 Ford Explorer XLT, with 61000 miles. I have a hum that starts at 65 mph and ends up with a whining noise at 70+mph. When you let go of the gas, the noise slightly subsides but whenever you gas it again the noise is back. The noise is definitely coming from the left front wheel, and I'm not sure if its the whole hub/bearing or a CV Joint.

Does anybody have any previous issues like this?

A bad wheel bearing would make a humming noise. If you need one we carry quite a few of them for a number of vehicles.

You may have a wheel bearing issue as many do but the noise you describe is the rearend. Wheel bearings issues are a constant sound but rearend noise fluctuates with speed -- usually between 50-60mph.

Like was said, there were some diff problems with this model. My parents had the diff in their '03 replaced at 75K for a whine from 55-65mph and I just recently replaced all the wheel bearings (hubs) for a persistent hum at around the same speed. They were all wasted, this also being a common problem with this bodystyle Ex.
