My 05 2WD XLT hyas developed a clicking noise in the front end and it sounds to me like its in the front right tire area. It's primarily a clicking noise with the occasional pop or other sound. I only hear in when the vehicle is 10-40 mph (may happen faster and the wind/road noise drowns it out). It seems to only happen when I'm traveling in a straight line as I don't hear it when I'm turning. The noise doesn't seem related to direction changes or other steering input.

It sounds very much like when one of the rear ABS rings came loose on my in-laws 06 Exp and the ring was just bouncing around on the axle. So I started thinking wheel speed sensor or similar.

I've had the tire, caliper and disc off the wheel huba nd couldn't find anything obvious. So I searched around a bit and came up with two ideas:
1. Wheel bearing hub bad (either bad bearing, broken ABS sensor component or other). There is no obvious play in the bearing and it doesn't make any noise when turned by hand.
2. Lower ball joint. (I've already replaced the front upper arms and tie rod ends about 15k ago when I got new tires and an alignment).

So I'm personally leaning away from #2 as I think that steering input should have some effect. However, I'm not loving #1 as I don't hear or feel anything when I turn it by hand. Could be something inside the hub though and I'm just not getting enough rotation on it when turning it by hand.

So I'm looking for advice or any experience close to this. I can just go ahead and replace the front bearing(s), but I hate to do that, button it up and find out I still have a popping noise.

Thanks,
Mike
