I have searched and am unable to find what I am looking for and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

My wife's sport trac is having an issue under acceleration of any gradient, whereas it is jerky, not smooth.

78,000 miles always have syn oil chgs every 3 to 4k and tranny fluid was done at 50k along with rear end fluid.

spark plugs have not been chgd yet, coolant has been topped off recently and I have replaced brake rotors, pads and fluid 3k ago.

I read here a while back about an ASB on the timing belt or chain, can't remember which, but it was for a ticking noise at start up and no further action was needed.

The check engine light will blink on/off when I floor it and it jerks I have not had the ECM read for diag codes, but the check engine light is not on now.

What could be some possible causes and solutions for this.

I am way out of warranty since its an 07 so any work done will be by me, I like to think I am mechanically inclined.

Thank you in advance.

This pretty much nails it!

In case anyone else is searching:

I was planning on grabbing the iridium plugs, just waiting on payday to do so. Hopefully it is that simple, thanks.

Lol, not simple on the V8. Have a search of the procedure before you start. You may just want to pay the 900 bucks to have someone else do it unless you have a lot of time and patience.

As I stated in my OP, I am mechanically inclined so this was a simple job that anyone can do in their backyard or garage.

Just got around to changing out all the spark plugs and coil packs. Took me about 2 hours in my garage, damn plugs had no anti-seize compound on them what so ever, so they were a PITA to unscrew.

The plugs were a beast to back out, I changed one plug and coil pack at a time and used anti-seize on the threads and di-electric tune-up grease on the plugs and coil pack packs.

Motorcraft spark plugs and ADP Coil Packs were 134 shipped. Pretty straight forward and simple job imo. Could have gone bad if one of the plugs snapped but luckily they did not.

Took it for a test drive and I was pleasantly surprised at the pep in the step of the 4.6, brought me back to the day I bought it in 07. Not to mention no more hesitant/sputtering acceleration.

It's my wife's truck so I never drive it, I was thinking of replacing the oem air intake hose, is there any after market set up that is recommended over the others?

Save your money on the intake replacement... :)

I just picked up the K&N for mine through advance auto parts for $203. Coupon codes and speed perk points for the win! Lol. I'm about to redo my spark plugs...I don't remember what my buddy's mechanic out in my truck but it was the motorcraft I asked for and I'm doing MSD Ignition coils from summit racing
