ken, in sand mode the pcm commands maximum duty cycle to the RDU for maximum traction....im willing to bet it unlocks the RDU just before the shift and relocks it just after..... it doesn't say this anywhere in literature but youd be able to find out for sure by monitoring the pcm command with a scan tool.... this may be the cause of the shudder/hop feeling upon the shift......ford does **** like this to keep abuse/strain of driveline parts...just like torque modulation...

Cool, thanks for the info. That might explain it. I can log just about anything and already looked at some of the AWD stuff. But first I want to finalize the power, then I'll address any outstanding trans stuff. I'm thinking I can solve it but won't know till I try.

Ken:

Can we order your tunes right now?

Thanks,
JC

I've been running the original 93 tune for a week now and am very happy, can't wait for the future improvements which will only makes thing better and better! Everything is much better then stock and really how it should have came from the factory!

That's great to hear Ryan! I'm certain that I can still make some more improvements. They will be minor but you'll probably notice. Plus I plan on adding a bit more peak HP.

Wow I've got a lot of catching up to do :-)

Take a vacation and house guys reinvent the world !!!

I too am after a bit of a boost like I did with the Audi , 80 hp should do it but stock the torque steer is horrible at full boost on the 1_2 shift and u say you are reducing the torque steer limiting ?

Ken.....I am running the tunes from Livernois. I know you/we don't want this to turn into a bash fest on who has the better tune. BUT.......I like the fact that you are the owner of a 2013 Sport and that you will be updating as you find new things. I'm not sure if that will be the case with the Livernois tune. Bottom line is I want the most performance I can get out of my Sport. I'd be more than willing to purchase your tune, but I guess (being the engineer I am) I want to know that your tune is 'better' before laying out another $x.. (edited by me the poster..not a moderator). Have you by any chance run any comparison? I'd be willing to let you dyno/test/whatever my Sport to get a real comparison.

Yes, I have that off. I'd rather hold onto the wheel tight and not have it limit power.

Jeff,

I'm pretty sure Dan Millen owns one now as well. He is the owner and tuner at Livernois. They are good friends of Lund Racing and I don't really have any interest in getting into a "who is better" situation. And I definitely wouldn't do what you suggested regardless of what shop we are talking about. I'm not out to 'prove' anything. We create the best tune we possibly can and people are already enjoying it and we are just getting started. Ours may be better, Livernois may be better, that is up to the customer to decide, not me.

Plus, you must first define 'better'. More power? Better shifting? Better control of AWD? Fastest at the track? More torque down low? What makes one tune better than another? Every customer is looking for a different combination of those things listed above. What you may consider 'better' may not fit what other people want out of a tune.

True :-)

Just thinking of the wife getting squirlley when she is dodging the traffic :-)

What about changing the bias to more rear wheel power on heavy throttle ?

This is the first awd - fwd car I've had that has such torque steer.

We can't do that until we figure out more about the center diff. It seems to be uncoupling on the 1-2 shift once you up the power alot.

As far as the torque steer mitigation, I can turn that back on by request.

Thanks Ken, we do own an Explorer Sport and it is daily driven. We are constantly working on the tune to make it the best possible for the customer. Like Ken said, we have no insterest in getting into a who is better pissing match. Competition is good, it makes us strive to give you the customers the best product possible! Good luck with your Explorer Sport endeavors Ken, we will be following you closely! ;) -Chris

Well technically we aren't talking... We are typing, so yeah ;)

What an awesome Forum! We have two competing tuners talking back and forth on the same forum! Very cool!!!

Here is an idea... How about Livernois and Lund Racing run a special deal for those of us on the fence to where we should go for our tunes. Each company could discount their tunes if we buy from both of you at the same time... That way we can give our business to both companies plus we can give our feedback and comparisons of each company tune...

Just a thought... ;-)

Sand mOde provides maximum bias possible to the rear... It is impossible to provide any more.... Reason being that the power provided to the ptu has to first go thru a fwd transmission.... Its mechanical and not controlled electrically... Only the amount of slip by the rdu cAn be manipulated electrically..(electro magnet).. The rear driveshaft is always turning at the same rate regardless...
