I finally got tired of my TTB crap breaking every weekend, so in retalliation i tore it down to the frame, and i just got a great deal on a '79 HP60 and a Dana 70 rear. I wheel mainly in the pine barrens and every once in a while i get out to paragon and tellico, so keeping my turning radius and wheelbase close to stock is important. I plan to run either 35" or 36" tires. I plan to go with 62.5" wms-wms, and keep the lift to a minimum - just enough to flex all the way out. I would really appreciate it if anyone who has done an SAS could post some front/rear pictures of their rig and their wms-wms width so i can get a better idea of what width to use.

35's on one ton's is a waste IMHO. If you are planning on going bigger in the near future id say go for it, but honestly i would sell them and go 44/9" for just 35-36's. You have the best and most desirable D60 front ever made- high pinion driver's drop and kingpins. I dont know what you paid for the 60/70, but you could sell them both for $1500 easy. That would buy you a nice set of half ton axles and leave you money to gear and lock them. You are looking at alot of $$$ to have the 60/70 cut down. Look at some of these guys on this site running fullwidth axles and 8" wheels... its really not that wide. It may be something to look into and would save alot of money. Just my 0.02.

well i was planning to build up a 302 thats puts out anywhere from 350-400 rwhp, so theres no way im running it through half-tons. I have an np435/np205 from and older ford that had a 302 in it, so Im most likely using that behind the new engine. Right now I'm just mocking up all the DOM and square stock for the new crossmembers. I have everything necessary to cut down the axles and reweld the C's accurately, I'd just need the shafts resplined. I'd still like to see some front and rear profiles of SAS'd explorers/rangers and the wms-wms width theyre running. Also if theres anyone in here thats ever done a 1/4 elliptical rear on an explorer/ranger, I'd like to see how they did it.

have you tried serching to see how wide of setups people are using or do you want it spoon fed to you? people who use waggonner or waggy axles are 61.5" wide YJ/XJ/TJ front ends are around 60"s wide. full widths are 65-67" wide. Now look at the other SAS and see what you like. I run a waggy and if I did it again I would go full width with a deep backspacing on the rims.
