Alabama jury awards $152 million in Ford Explorer rollover case | Reuters

An Alabama jury awarded $151.8 million to a young man paralyzed in 2015 rollover accident involving a Ford Explorer sport utility vehicle, Ford and lawyers in the case said on Sunday.

The jury awarded $100 million in punitive damages and the rest in compensatory damages after finding on Friday that the 1998 Ford Explorer did not meet Ford’s own safety guidelines and that Ford “acted wantonly” in designing the vehicle, according to a court document seen by Reuters and lawyers for plaintiff Travaris “Tre” Smith.

That’s a ridiculous amount, even if they were entirely negligent.

Maybe I should sue for my flop several years ago. I was very upset and had to take several minutes to regain my composure. That should be worth a couple million.

Why not sue the driver for not reading the warning label on the sun visor and operating the vehicle in an unsafe manner? He also probably doesn't know cigarettes can cause cancer...

It’s quite possible they did nothing wrong, and just didn’t know how to handle a highway blowout. Ford is liable for the ridiculously low PSI spec, and Firestone is partially liable for putting out flawed tires due to aging materials, and unskilled strike breaking labor.

Smith was riding in the SUV when its driver swerved to avoid an animal and the vehicle rolled over twice, attorneys at law firms Beasley Allen and Gamble, Gamble, Calame and Jones said in a statement.

I wonder if he was wearing a seat belt? I've seen cars roll over more than twice without anyone breaking a neck or spine.
