Hey how is everyone doing? Fine I hope. Anyhow, the purpose behind this thread is to get some advice on rim size. I know 18's will look nice but I saw some 20's on a 1998 mountaineer this weekend and they looked preet nice. So, just to clarify things, I have a 97 Explorer Xlt and I just use it for a street car. Meaning, I don't do any off road riding or anything like that, my X is just a means of transportation that I want to look good when I am driving it. So will 19's or 20's be to big and make my X drive ride rough. Please some one help me out on this

I've heard larger than 18" rims roughen the ride up too much for some tastes. I also think the truck looks better with a little sidewall left.

Yeah, a lot of people from the forum tell me that 18'' is probably the best size to go with. I have heard that they look nice. Can anyone show me a picture of an Explorer with 18'' and 20'' rims on it so I can make a comparison to see which one looks better.

That pic gives a basic idea of what you are looking at size wise. Although, it is a bit disceiving because (IMHO) thoses 18s are just ugly wheels while the 20s and 23s are nice. I think the 18s are a good choice because of the ride/cost difference. Of course, if you gots lots of money to spend and ride quality isn't a huge priority, the 20s do look nice on an X.

BTW: please don't flame on how well everyone's 20s ride, it is just my opinion

Thanks, how do you guys think 19's will look on an X. Do yall think that it will roughen the way my explorer drives or what. I mean do you guys really think that a difference in one inch will affect the way my explorer drives that much.

You are better off with either 18's or 20's for one reason...cost and selection of tires. I've heard many people say that 19's are so rare that tires are both hard to find and expensive.

BTW...does anybody have pics of 18's on a 01-03 Sport or Sporttrac??? I'm looking to buy some wheels in a few months and I'm trying to get some ideas.

I have has my 20's for awhile now and they ride very well. I wouldn't say that they ride rough at all. Heck, I have more tire than my stock Focus ZTS. I say if you can afford the 20"s then get them!

If you can afford em, definetly go 20s.

Here are pics of my 18" wheels:

and the pic of my tires:

I would stick with getting 18" wheels imo.

Crimson, those are the exact rims that I want!!!! 18" American Racing Jammers. They look sweet on your explorer! I'm leaning towards the 18" AR Jammers over the 17" Cobra R's. Do you have any "rub" issues at all?

Here is a pic of my X with 18's. I love em but as you can see there is still room in the wheel well. I plan to get it dropped to close the gap but if you can afford 20's thats what I would do because 20's look great!Dead Link Removed

here is a pic of some more 20's on my X. if you want me to post any more pics just ask.
