We have a brand new (err old) 89 Bronco II in our driveway.

When my mom was driving it back from California (280 miles) it was doing it then also. You know the El Cajon pass to las vegas? It's a very steep hill. She would give it gas, and it would "miss" It doesn't sound like the engine is missing, I think it is something else. The engine has a ton of power, and seems to idle pretty smooth. She said it would lose RPM after a while when it "missed" then started to rev up again.

It did it with me in the car today, and it doesn't feel right. Is there anything I should check? I believe she has it in overdrive also when it does this.

Check the boost pump in the fuel tank. the 89 Bronco II with the 2.9L engine has two fuel pumps, the one mounted on the frame rail below the drivers door is the high pressure fuel pump, the one mounted in the gas tank is called the "boost pump" it's only job is to provide enough fuel to the high pressure pump on hills.
When the boost pump is failing it will cause a similar situation to what you describe.
Does it drive fine around town?
Does it have starting problems when parked up hill?

Now you want to listen to the fuel pump anbd see if its making any gurgling noises, the way to do this is put your ear back there and have someone else turn the key to the ON pos. This will turn on both fuel pumps for a couple of seconds. Listen for anything thjat sounds like a sucking noise, also listen and make sure the pumop in the tank is coming on :)

There are other things it could be but this is the place to start, trust me :)

Thought I would check in :)

It is the solenoid in the transmission. My mom drove it yesterday, it "misses" in overdrive, but not in Regular drive. Time to replace a solenoid

The fuel pump for the 89 bronco II looks weird. Go look it up on partsamerica.com. Expensive also!

Thanks for your help! :)
