1992 premium head unit XLT model

yikes!

should be good, no road salts here, and its been garaged since new. Eventually I will need to find a good body shop to paint it. the clear is pretty much gone and starting to have some surface rust on the top, not bad just a very light amount. I painted a car many moons ago, used an enamel paint, looked ok until a bug decide to do the back stroke on a fender. I would love to try painting again. Maybe that can be my retirement project.

Thanks for all the input guys!

will keep posted on progress.

Remember to not lose the keys to your aftermarket radio, if it came with them. They come in handy for removal. :p

back to the yard today, found one in a town car, has disk play as well :D
Works but something odd about the balance. did not fool with it to see how it works as it does not use knobs but rather a button that accesses the balance control. will mess wiht it later. there was a shorting plug installed in the square hole above square hole for the speaker connection. That was not in my orig unit.
Maybe that has something to do with it? I will post up some video later.

but for now I have a clock and at least some radio.

whoo hoo just check the CD player it works too!

I think I have a blown speaker in the DS door, the balance works fine when faded to the back when forward I get a very tinny sounding low volume from the left but fine on the right door speaker.

here are some pics video to follow, working on pulling the door panel so I can get to the speaker

blown speaker, wide open, I presume I was just hearing the little coax tweet, back to the junk yard :) just checked the price, 3$ for an OEM :)

went to the yard, got a couple pioneer coax speakers out of an EB looks like maybe 96 model. They were ford/mazda stamped with the poly cones. I only installed the one since I did not feel like making work and pulling the body panel. Maybe when it gets cooler just so I have a matching pair. It sounds great!

Looks like it's coming along! Glad to see. One of these days, I might do a video on aftermarket installation.

they are TS-A6857 pioneers.

looked them up online, mostly poor to just ok reviews, not that I care about that, the main thing to me is they cost 3$ and sound fine. I don't thump anyway
as I tend more to lower level listening.

Next thing to fix will be the driver side door pull. It was already cracked at the door pull, and when reinstalling the panel the screw at the interior door handle just dropped thru. Somehow the boss inside must have broken leaving a hole big enough for the screw head, I did not notice until too late.

I know there are after market pulls so I may just go that route, I may even just get a new door panel complete if I can find a nice one. Not sure I could remove a stocker as they look to be melted on.

Nice! At least you got a CD player and 4 speakers!

They are melted on but I changed mine by cutting the melts off with a blade. The old one popped out and the new ones install using clips

I will check it out, I know I saw some nice ones at the yard thanks for the tip.
