1994 Aerostar. Starter or ignition problem.

After years of rare issues starting my Aerostar due to a worn out ignition lock cylinder, I finally decided to change it. Sometimes I had to put it in neutral and/or back to Park in order for it to start. However, after putting a new ignition lock cylinder, I'm getting the same problem where the starter doesn't turn or even make any noise.

What is the proper procedure to diagnose this problem.

Welcome to this forum! You might have a bad ignition switch, neutral safety switch or the shift linkage might need an adjustment.

How do I diagnose each? Does it require removal of switch? I thing the most likely culprit is the neutral safety switch.

You will need a schematic diagram, test light, and a multimeter. Start with the adjustment first.

Hah im having the same issue with my 1st gen my starter makes no noise either have you tried shorting it at the solenoid?
