Well, sold the 93' XLT and picked up a SWEET 1994 Explorer Limited (another post on that later) with the JBL Sound System w/sub woofer.

Problem is this, RADIO/CD unit is dead. Pulled unit and it is getting power as the heatsink on the side was pretty hot and could see red laser light inside CD slot.

Bought a harness to connect to the factory head unit connectors and tried hooking up an aftermarket head unit and it powered up, but no sound comes out of the speakers or sub. You do hear a small pop in the speakers when connecting the connector/s but that is it.

Probably missing something and hoping someone might be able to guide me in the right direction to accomplish one of the following:

1. Get a replacements FORD head unit for the car and not pay a fortune.

2. Instruct how I can connect an aftermarket head unit and keep the existing speakers and sub in the back working with no problems

Thanks in advance for any comments or advice.

check your fuses? if not them speakers might be blown or maybe not even there since you just bought the truck...

Replace that CD player, I had mine go bad twice, the second time I bought a used one, it was bad when I got it. They aren't reliable, and expensive to have repaired. Find out how to use an adapter and get an aftermarket radio. Regards,

Yes, I replaced the head unit with a Pioneer DEH-P7900BT head unit with the BlueTooth, BT Audio, IPOD and SAT Radio option. Unit plugged right up and drove all the speakers AND sub with no problems. Found out I have a screwed up surround on my JBL subwoofer so I took it to the shop and they are replacing the surround for $25.00 (versus paying $300.00 for a new JBL sub)

Very happy with the unit

Very good Jim, the early JBL systems are very hard to fix when they have problems.

BTW, have you heard of making the other windows go up and/or down automatically, one touch like the LF? The modules like that Limited has, and Taurus' etc, can be installed in other windows to add the feature. I have my right window with it, the window opens with one touch like the left. Regards,

You know I was thinking about that today and wondering if that was the case. What is the piece that one needs to install to make this happen on the other windows?

Oh, will be sending you a mail regarding picking up that piece we spoke of

I was really happy the speaker shop told me they could make the sub good as new for so cheap.

Can't wait to get it back to see how it sounds in the car.

I should put up my 1st post today on the new limited and the future plans I have for it. Would like yours as well as anyone's elses input on the project once we get into it.

Below is a picture with that auto window module, the black box, from my 93's LF door. The modules found in mid 90's Taurus's are easier to come by, and they wire in the same way. There is a thread or two in here with step by step instructions. At least one company makes a kit for about $25 that includes a module like those.

Ah, thats great and a good add for our "what could have been" project

Thanks for the info on that....very helpful

Cool, the wiring isn't too bad, the trick is to look at your current wiring, there's about five wires there.
