1995 Ford Explorer stuck in first gear.

Hi, I've been researching this for the past week. But I haven't found anything that was matching the symptoms that I'm experiencing. It's a 1995 Ford Explorer, overdrive light is NOT on, however it suddenly stopped shifting out of first gear a week and a half ago. But I am able to shift it manually to "2", "1" and "Reverse" with the shift lever. I've already checked the transmission fluid. But my best guess would just be replacing the valve body but I just wanted to make avsolutely sure before I threw away $200 on a part I did not need.

I don't know to much about automatics but if it was my truck i'd try replacing the modulater...
I'd get the cheaper one and give it a try...
