1996 4.0 4x4 no gears at all

Hi guys, first post over here!

I have a 1996 4.0 overhead valve 4x4 Explorer. While driving to work at 65mph on the highway the motor just started to free rev like it was in neutral. I now have no gears at all. If i put it in gear and give it quite a bit of throttle it will just want to start moving the truck... It has 140,000 miles on it. It acutllay looks like too much fluid when i check it. Bought the truck with 135,00 on it. Anything i can check before pulling the trans out? Do you think it could be the pump? Convertor problem?

Welcome to this forum! It might have blown valve body gaskets, loose valve body bolts, bad EPC solenoid, sticking boost valve, clogged filter or bad filter O rings. Take a look at the sticky thread on the 5R55E valve body for more information.
