1996 Aerostar. Stalling only upon acceleration.

I am experiencing the strangest condition. My 1996 Aerostar 4.0L is stalling only on acceleration. It starts fine, idles fine, but when you depress the accelerator pedal it revs like normal then cuts out completely like either no fuel or spark. You can creep along (it's how I got it home) by pressing the accelerator just until you feel it loose power then let off then it will idle rough then smooth and you can then give it another bump. My first thought is TPS mainly because it is idling fine. How would I test that? Other than that I humbly defer to the wisdom of the forum. Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Did you check the vacuum lines & intake manifold gaskets for leaks? Do you have a check engine light with a code? Do you have a bad smell coming from the exhaust system? Do you have sufficient flow through the exhaust?
