1996 Eddie B on waggy's

Been lurking around the boards for sometime... Finally getting around to working on the Explorer.

This is not gonna be a quick build.... I've got some other projects for other people that I have to get out of the way first.... Not really sure were it's headed... What I know for sure is it will be sitting on a set of Waggy44's....

Here is some pics to get started with...:D

I would have kept the 8.8.

I second this and just run adapters to get the bolt patterns matching for the wheels, there have been numerous tests sowing the 8.8 is far stronger than a 44, plus disc brakes.

I do not disagree with the 8.8 being stronger.... my original plan was to convert the front over to 5x5.5 and run adapters in the rear. I happened along this set of axles for cheap, from a guy that had them for his YJ, but sold the jeep. So I ended up with 2 waggy fronts and one rear. Sold the one front off and I've got another guy coming today to pick up the 8.8.... All-in-all I've made cash putting the 44's in it. With 33's and the 4.0, I don't for see any issues.... plus there really is no rocks here in Pensacola, Fl.. :(

so for now ....no lug coversion, can convert the rear over to disks cheap, rear axle was already spring over, matching gears front and rear....plus the budget still looks good...:D

Yep, using what you have on budget-good idea, and if your not to hard on it, -will be fine

IFS removed....

Thats a nice cross member. What did you make it out of? Can you take a close up of how it butts up against the frame rails?

It's made of 2"X3"-3/16 box tubing, 1/4" plate for the spring mounts and some 1/8" plate to cap the ends off....

I can get a few more pics this week...

what springs are you running?

The fronts are Rough Country 3" Waggy lift springs.... rears are the stock X springs

Is it spring over in back and spring under in front?

Yep, SUA front and SOA rear... Went SUA front to keep cost down. With the 3" lift springs and the front drop hanger, the truck is quickly approaching my 7' overall roof heigth.

BenS... here is some other pics of the mounting...

Worked on the shackle hangers... not finished yet... There kind of modeled off Section525's mounts

I liked your setup so much I went to the boneyard today to find some axles. I found a j10 and a j20 but both the diffs were on the wrong side, so am I looking into the wrong jeeps?

Sounds like you were looking at the Comanchee's (sp?), most of them were passenger side drops..... Look for the wagoneer, either narrow trac or wide trac... I think it's pre 1980, so there is no vac disconnect.... if i'm wrong hopefully someone will chime in...

no more jackstands....

115" wheelbase
6'3" tall on a bald set of 33's
