I replaced the engine in my 1996 Ranger. I can not get the Temp Gauge to work.
I've replaced the gauge and the heat sensor (twice).
Checked all the fuses one by one.
Grounded out the sensor wires still the gauge will not move. I have no idea where to go from here

If you have the Lima 2.3/2.5, the gauge sensor is located on the drivers side of the block, pretty much under the rearmost intake manifold runner. Some have a separate sensor for computer use.
If the fuel gauge is inoperative also, you may have a failed voltage regulator. The regulator is a chopper that lowers the effective voltage to the gauges so they are not affected voltage variations caused by changing loads on the alternator. There may be a small box mounted to the backside of the instrument cluster, if so, that is the regulator.
If the wiring it intact, the connector tight at the back of the cluster, and the gauge won't operate when the wire is grounded, you may have a defective gauge.
