1996 X...tranny options

My 1996 X with the 4.0 has developed a flare from 2-3, and the O/D light flashes. It still drives well, but it's bothersome, to say the least.

I'm hunting a replacement tranny, and am wanting to know which year X's to look at as a donor.

Any help would be great!!

Nah...I already have a 98 EB with the V8.

This is going to go to my daughter once I get all the bugs worked out of it. I don't want to put too much money in it, but I want it to be mechanically sound and safe for her.

I already have too many high powered gas guzzlers in my stable. I know a V6 of this era isn't exactly a sipper, but it's not near as bad as the others.

Like I said...this is actually going to go to my daughter, unless I pick something else up for her.

Did the Lucas really help with your problem, or did it return?

IT did good for about six months and started acting up again and that gave me time to save up for a rebuild.found a retired ford trans guy on craigslist that rebuilt it for $900
