I have also posted this in the transmission forums, but I am hoping I can reach some other people in this forum for some help on my issue.

I rebuilt my transmission and now that it is installed every gear moves the vehicle forward. To read a more in depth explanation follow to my other post.

Thank you.

The name of the part escapes me at the moment, but on the valve body, there is a plunger that connects valve body to the gear selector. It's really easy to forget to put plunger to the right gear once you get all excited about getting the valve body in... jeez I can't remember what it's called.

Maybe it is the manual valve pin?

parking pawl

I did some playing around with a spare transmission I have and I think it might be the parking pawl actuating rod not seating all the way into the extension housing. I will check it out tomorrow and post back with what I find.

Forward clutches melted together? Or something is stuck and applying them at all times.

bone head move, didn't triple check.

So I dropped the transfer case and checked the parking pawl. Everything was fine. I dropped the pan and I found the culprit. I can remember setting it right but must have moved before I bolted the valve body down. The manual control lever was not seated in the valve control. My transmission was always in first gear.

Can you explain further please.

I have the same exact issue. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=431285

After I flushed the fluid and changed the valve body gasket, now it only goes forward when in reverse and neutral.

Which piece is the parking pawl? And what exactly do I need to double check to make sure it is in the right place?

I see a valve in that picture and I also see a lever. What should it look like when bolting it back up?

Here is my solution. I hope you had figured it out already sorry for late reply.

No I didn't try to fix it yet. I was waiting to get a reply first. I see your picture with the valve and the green arrow to it. So, I need to make sure that the valve sits out a little or does it need to be flush with the base?

I still don't get it.

Is the lever pin you have circled suppose to go behind the valve head where the arrow is pointing?

The arrow pointing at the pin for the valve body moves in and out. Depending on the location for the shift lever, the part that is circled, the pin will open up the different valves. When it is flush like the picture, it is in 1st gear. The shift lever pulls it in and out of its shaft. You need to drain your pan, take off the shift lever move the valve pin out to the correct position and reinstall the shift lever.

Good luck.

ok thanks. I think I understand.

So basically, I just need to make it look exactly like how I see in your picture with the valve pin out just a little bit, while the lever is on that first notch.

If you have the post on the shift lever connected to the valve pin, you will be able to shift. If not, you will stay in only one gear.

you don't happen to have a picture of what it looks like when the shift lever post is connected to the valve pin?
