My explorer won't move if you put it in DRIVE. Reverse works fine if you put it in reverse. If you put it in low it works in low and will shift into 2nd if you manually do that. If you start out in 2nd gear on the shifter it will start in low and shift to second. ANY THOUGHTS? I just had the VB out and gasket wasn't blown and the servo brackets weren't broken. Also no big chunks of anything were found in the pan.

I would say that a one of the clutch bands is worn past its point of usefulness or the band is actually broken. I would say doing a complete rebuild would be the best bet

Thanks for the reply. I was fearful of that. Do you think adjusting the bands may get it going?

Thanks guys. I will post progress

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmission section. Check the pressure in each gear range (the main port, and the EPC port). You might have low EPC pressure in drive. Double check the fluid level.

Curious how this one turned out. Sounds to me like a band range sensor....
