I have a 1997 ford explorer 2 door sport. The mirror on the drivers side is broke. I was wondering if i could just replace the glass or i have to buy the whole new housing? Does anyone kno where i could find either one i need for cheap? Thanks

Safelite autoglass sells replacement glass. I happen to work there. I dont what is envolved in installing. I know that they are very inexpensive.

I replaced the passenger side with one I picked up at a salvage yard for $10. The old glass with plastic mount backing just pops out. Just a little more difficult to get the replacement popped back in.

Someone took the glass out of my 96 Explorers passenger side housing and I was wondering the same thing....does the replacement glass come with the plastic mounting on the back of the glass? Is this something I will have to get from Ford or a junk yard? If I buy replacement glass from a parts store, will it come with the plastic mounting on the back? I don't want to go and buy glass then find out I need the plastic backing then have to buy glass with a back OR the entire housing.

I dont believe that the replacement glass from Safelite comes with any plastic parts. You can call your local store and ask them.
