1997 Ford Explorer xlt
I have a 1997 Ford Explorer when I select 4l it engages the rear wheels but not the front wheels. I have put another transferase in it off another 1997 Ford Explorer and it is doing the same thing. I don't know if it is a wiring thing or just bad transfercases.

i wonder if its the brown wire- i have the bwm in mine, and when i engage thw switch the front wont engage. has the wire been cut etc?

Do the front wheels engage in 4hi?

Better check the TOD fuse, then the wiring. As mentioned above, go straight to the brown wire. Back-probe and connect a meter, with the other lead to a good ground.
Zero duty should read ~ 0.6 VDC, Full duty cycle should be right around 6 VDC.
Hope this helps.

It could well be just that. Occasionally a cherry will get a used 4x4 Explorer that has a BWM, but they don't even know the mod has been done.

No the brown wire isn’t cut the light come on when switched into 4l but front axle doesn’t engage and doesn’t engage in 4hi the 4hi and low worked perfectly fine until one day it just quit working I have checked all fuses and they are good

Did you attempt 4low while in neutral?

Does 4low light in cluster work?
Yes the light work when switch into 4 low in neutral and I can hear the transfer case shift into low the rear tires engage and work in four low but the front drive shaft doesn’t even turn when in 4 low or 4 high when in drive so it’s not a problem with the front diff

whichg transfer case im assuming bw4405 corrext? do you have a CAD front axle or live? 4hi should be seamless engagement with live axle since the druveshaft should be spinning wi the the tcase

What voltage are you reading at the brown wire?

Have you tried swapping the relays around?
