Just need a little general help.

How much towing capacity does my stock 1997 5-speed OHC Sport have?

I plan on getting a frame-mounted hitch-any recommendations? Are there any good options for installing myself (without welding) or should I just leave it to a professional?

Thanks

Ahh another Marylander.. First question, is it a 5 spd manual or automatic transmission? What gear ratio do you have? You can look at the owners manual and it'll tell you what the maximum towing amount is based on your transmission and axle ratio.

If it is the 5 speed stick:
3.27=1850#
3.73=2800#
(add 200# if a 2wd)

I wouldnt do much more than 3000 lbs max

I tow about 4500# with mine and it does very well even here in hilly New England. I just am careful with the clutch.
When backing I use 2WL (made the mod) and that takes almost all the wear off the clutch as it creaps slow enough to be off the clutch

Thanks for the info, it's a 5-speed manual.

Any recommendations on installing a hitch?

Many aftermarket hitches out there, you just gotta look. Many like the Hidden round tube models.
