1998 Ford Explorer Hard Shifting Into Overdrive When Cold!!

Hi ive searched the forums and couldnt find anything that related to my post... Ive got a 1998 explorer 5.0 AWD that when cold hates going into OD- Its always done it but recently its been much worse. It will just rev higher and not shift untill about a mile down the road then it will shift (only when i let off the throttle though). Once the car is warm its not a problem at all and shifts freely into OD. Every other gear the car shifts fine without any problem.

Should I change the tranny fluid? What else could it be?

Yup, Change the fluid & filter and you should experience better shifts.
Worked for me....
