My engine light came on and the fault code is p442. The parts store told me that was a vacuum leak or a bad gas cap.
I checked all the vacuum lines and the gas cap is on tight. How can you check a gas cap I have never replaced one.
Could the problem be the EGR valve?
I replaced the manifold gaskets a year ago the oxygen sensors.mass air flow, and the solenoid on the manifold have all been replaced with in a year.
Can someone give me a better idea of what this error is?
thanks

Evap control small leak detected (as small as .040 inch)

How can I find a vacuum leak that small I checked the hoses and see no cracks. All the hoses are hooked up.

It basically takes a smoke machine to find stuff like that.

I replaced the gas cap and I traced down the vacuumk lines and feel no leak the car run fine.
The error code p442.
Part store said iot could be the evaporator canister
Does anyone know where it is at?
Anyone outr there ever replace one?

I think its a box above the spare tire but that would be an extremely rare problem on an X. There is a valve under the battery that can go bad. I would tend to agree with having a shop use a smoke machine. That is a sure fire way to find all the leaks.

I had a EVAP major leak CEL. I replaced the gas cap, EVAP Control Solenoid, and EVAP Pressure Sensor... fixed the problem
