Hi
First I would check the DPFE sensor, and also check the 2 rubber hoses which supply egr pressure to it.

It is tight back there, but these are usually the problem. The valve itself rarely goes bad.

You might also check the metal egr tube for leaks-

which exact code did you get?

Wrench size is 1 1/16 if memory serves.

i think it was code P1408 EGR Flow out of Self-Test Range

is there a way to test that DPFE sensor ?

I am not sure. Usually when it fails it is due to being melted internally.

Could be just the hoses are blown out also.

were there any other codes stored? Anything related to the catalytic converters?

Easy - with the right tools

The DPFE is easy to test -- if you have the right tools and a service manual. Leave the higher pressure (upstream) port open, apply vacuum from a handheld pump to the low pressure port, read the output with a scanner as you change the pressure, compare to a chart in the service manual.

In a pinch, you can apply manifold vacuum (anything above 10" will do) and use a multimeter to probe the output wire. If you still have the old aluminum body DPFE, you should see close to 5V. With both ports open (0 differential pressure), it should be around 1V. The output wire is the brown/light green one.

Is it worth the effort vs. just replacing the fairly cheap sensor? I did that, out of curiosity, when mine failed, but I had all the tools. It's your choice.

there are no other stored codes i will go pick up a new sensor and see what happens
