Greetings everyone! I have a 1999 Explorer XLT that I bought a couple years ago. I have two issues involving the 4WD. First is that when I put it in 4WD low, I never get a light showing that. It always says 4WD High, so I am not even sure if it is going into 4wd low. The previous owner told me he had had problems with the 4wd low, but that he had fixed it. I have never been able to get it into 4wd, at least that I know of.

Also, when I am in 4wd high, I get an occasional hesitation or jerk while driving, almost like a hiccup. I don't notice any RPM drops though. It seems to happen anywhere from 30mph - 55mph.

at this point I am not very confident that the 4wd system is even working properly. Any advice? TIA!

I am assuming that this is a truck with C-track, but maybe your hall sensor is malfunctioning and telling your transfer case to engage intermittently while driving...

For 4low, you must be stopped, in neutral, with your foot on the brakes, then flip the switch. Same process to get back into 4high.

As for the hiccup, I can't help much. Mine did the same thing a few times a few years ago, but hasn't done it since.
