I am looking for a first Gen Explorer. How many came with manual shift t-cases. It seems that most of them that i look at have the prone to failure push button shift. I saw a 5 speed explorer today that had the manual shift t-case. Is it random? What combo came with the Manual shift t-case?

I think on the first gen it's dependent on what option boxes were checked when the vehicle was ordered.

mine is a '91 XLT with both manual T-case and hubs
but have seen other '91's with the electric t case and manual hubs
and some with both electric t case and auto hubs.

So maybe it is alittle random on the first gens

Thank you. Anyone else have any input?

I think he was right, you could pretty much select whatever you want. I know the site owener (Rick) bought his brand new with a 5 speed and a manual T-case and hubs. Mine was bought with all auto. Just whatever combo was selected.

I bought mine new with 5-speed, manual hubs and transfer case. It is a 2-door Sport.
