1993 Explorer sport
Iv looked and cant find what I'm looking for. I have a 1993 ford explorer sport 4x4. I'm looking at the rough country 4in lift and it suggest 31x10.50-15s. I want to see what that combo looks like on 91-94 explorers. Everyone seems to stiff 32s and 33s under them. I dont want any fender cutting and I dont want to have to gear more than 3.73s.

31s will fit stock Explorers.

Check this thread for guidlelines:

And this one for photos...

31s will not fit mine with out extensive triming. My explorer has the plastic rocker panels all the way down the side.

That's another thing all the explorers I see ither didn't come with the plastic rocker molding or it's been trimmed..my Eddie bauer I had only had the rocker trim running under the doors. My sport has it under the doors and runs over the fenders as well.

Options: remove plastic trim, or run smaller than 31. Or lift higher.

I'm wanting to lift higher. I just want to see what 4in and 31s look like on a un cut explorer..

That loogs good to me I think 4in and 31s will be good. I like that tire carrier..what did you do for that

Thanks! I used some 2x3 1/4 wall tube in the bumper. Cut and welded the stock bumper brackets to it so that I could keep the stock bumper. Had to notch the frame the way I did the brackets. Then built a swingout off of that tube!

The link in my signature will take you to my thread. There’s some detailed pictures in there somewhere!

I have a 91 and have factory suspension. You don't need any lift or fender trim to fit your desired 31s. I have 31x10.5r15s on mine and still have the factory running boards and I have no rubbing at full steer. This is why you see the 33s on the explorer with a 4 inch lift. I haven't had any issues with my current setup.

What I'm looking for is pictures of explores with 4inch lifts and 31s..all 4in lifts for this era ranger and explorers recommend 31s

This is how the Rough Country 4inch lift with 17" wheels and 33" tires looks.
1994 XLT with 3.73 gears and factory Trac-Lok lsd.

That's exactly the type of pictures I was looking for. It seems the 4in lift gives more than 4 inches. I didn't really want to go as big as 33s though. I'm curious to see what the exact lift would look like on 31s with factory wheels as rough country specs.

Oh I see. Well I've been running this setup for like a year now and it does rub but not much, and only when you turn the wheel all the way. Also , you can get wheels with more negative offset to reduce the chance of rubbing.

How much lift you need for a given tire size really depends on your wheels more than anything. Stock wheels or narrow ones with an offset close to zero are more forgiving. Wider wheels or those with significant negative offset that stick out further will be harder to work with... I have 15x8 Mickey Thompson wheels on mine with 30x9.50x15 tires, and 1.5" lift in the front and they still rub on occasion. 31x10.50x15s on stock wheels also rub but in different spots.

The green explorer is stock height with 31x10.5 15" and has the rockers. It never rubbed. The front looks a bit higher than normal right now though since the trans and most of the motor are out of it at the moment.

The White one is what I drive now with a 3" rough country lift, and 31x10.5 15"s

1st pick is 5” lift and 37s
2nd is same lift and 35s

I think the recommendations of 31s are to keep the auto transmissions from failing. Unless you’ve got 4.10s anything over 31s is pushing it with the auto.
