I was going to do true duals on my explorer with 2 2.25" Super 40 flowies but due to money and limited space, Im just going to run one

My question is, since I already have 2.25" Super 40's, I was going to sell one and use the other. I already have existing 2.25" piping from my current exhaust so I was just going to use that.

My question is, everyone reccomend 2.5" piping for the 4.0 SOHC. Will it make that much of a difference if I use 2.25" instead of 2.5"? Is it worth selling all my stuff on ebay and buying 2.5"?

Use the 2 1/4" since having too little back-pressure has detrimental effects.

I was planning on doing a true dual x-pipe setup on my X....you say one of your reasons for not doing it is limited space....is it really that hard to do, or can it be done?

well you have to think of how it looks under your explorer. Yes, you can remove the tire but where can you really put an xpipe under the explorer and it flow nicely? The only way I would be able to fit an X pipe was some crazy lookin one...The only other alternative would be an H pipe(i hear they sound ricey but would be a lot easier.) Not to mention X pipes run close to 100$ by themselves.....Since I have a v6 im just going to go a single muffler since the SOHC likes backpressure anyways. Since your V8, it might be worth going thru the extra trouble...I honestly dont know with your engine
