2 Bald + 1 Spare + 1 Slow Leak = Tire Upgrade Time!

Hey guys!

Well I had a blow out on the highway yesterday and I believe it's finally time to get some new tires. I think I have gotten every mile out of my tires cuz if you can tell by the title... There isn't much left holding my truck up hahah... welll...

Alright so the Trac is stock in the sense of wheels and suspension. I am looking for a tire that will meet my needs of a daily driver, while also being allowed to hit the trails on the weekend and not be to concerned about something happening to them. I have Goodyear Wranglers RT/S on right now (255/70R/16), but I'm looking for something with a bit more "beef" I guess you could say. As of now I will not be lifting the Trac/getting wheels (Although I am dying for some MT Sidebitters ) as I need to put my money towards college, but I need new tires haha. So If you were in my situation what would you do?

I'm a bit confused as to what (255/70R/16) means, I get 16 is the wheel and one has to deal with the diameter? Help!

I like the BRGoodrich, Cooper, and Goodyear tires, but I will take any suggestions on an upgraded tire!

For your setup I would go with General Grabber AT2's, great all around tire for every type of driving. If I hadn't found the GoodYear DuraTrac's

I would've gone with the Grabbers but my Trac is lifted and I needed a bit more bit.e, plus the price was just right at $146 a tire for 33x12.50x15's.

Also check Craig's List around the Cinnci area, I looked real quick at ranger/ jeep/ eplorer wheels and found a ton of awesome deals for wheels and tires cheaper then it would cost for just tires.

Yeah the Grabber AT2's are simliair to the BFG T/A K/O's but are siped and studdable for snow and ice , way beeter IMHO, I had the BFG's on mine and the traction on snow and ice sucked.

I really like them, pretty quiet for a mud/ snow tire on the highway and the traction is awesome. I primarily bought them because of the bad winters we get here in Pittsburgh, especially since 99.9% of Pittsburgh is all steep windy hills and mountains.

Alright so just got back from tirediscounters and the guy said he didn't think General made off-road tires anymore/he couldn't get those in store. So here are the prices I was given for a set of new tires...

Goodyear Wrangler RT/s (Tires I've got now): $691+/-

Then he gave me his top 3 best sellers for offroad tires...

BFGoodrich All Terain KO RWL: $963+/-
Herculera Terra Trac A/T: $703+/-
Yokahama Geilander A/T-s: $679+/-

Run as far away from that place as you can, if he thinks General doesn't make offroad tires anymore then he has "NO" clue what he's doing in the tire business, JMHO.

The Wrangler's (you have already) are garbage from the factory, the BFG's are ok but harden and wear funny once they get about a year to two worth of wear on them.

Check out Craigs List, lots of great deals on there for full sets of rims and tires cheaper then the prices you just quoted.

Make sure you the posting here first to get info on the deal before going thru with it since you're not familair with wheels and tires.

i second the duratracs for a daily driver and amazing off road, and for me I needed a great winter tire and they do that too.

Indiana winters suck awful. Snow, snow, snow, then the top melts, then more snow. So you get layers of snow, then ice, then snow. Have a pic somewhere of the layers... hmmmm.

Gotcha. Now because my tires are 255/70R/16, do I have any wiggle room for larger tires, but still keeping the same wheel(16) on a stock suspension?

thats the best thing about the duratracs is you can get them in stock size. i went from from stock to a 32 in this with only a torsion twist and minimal trimmer in the inner wheel wells.
