The plan

1992 explorer
302 Ho motor
c-6 tranny
205 transfercase twinsticked
Rockwell axles one steering one fixed (4ws some day)
Four link front and rear with the back half of the frame hacked off behind the passenger seats and tubed out.

Parts curently gathered

rockwell axles
DIY4X pinion brake kit
302 HO
C-6
2-44" boggers 2-44" tsl's
4 used 16.5 rims for rockwell patern
explorer body and frame
205 transfer case

enough about what I WANT to do and time to start with what i am doing

I wheeled that big ******* into the shop to begin tear down.

Soaked every nut and bolt with pb blaster fo a few days since the axle had been seting outside for a few years.

Tore the axle down to pull out the shafts. This picture was moments from dissapointment.

Thats not a U-Joint!

None of that junk is going back on the axle ill keep the shafts for emergancy spares the a junk yard close by that sells the u-joint shafts for 220 a side so ill be geting them when the holiday bills are paid off.

Started shaving the rockwell pan

fliped them over and covered the gears to gring and cut the ends even and square

welded on the plate to cross over the bull gear

then i removed the old seal and spacer. Got the new seal spacer combo from custom off road to change over from the rapeeze to the u joint

put the center section back in a filled my diff with oil to be shure the shave didnt leak

Almost done with this axle for now till i order the steering that will wait till i get farther along with the rest of the project

Im loving this man. I have been wanting to put a set of rocks under my X for a while. I still fell i will some day but not now.

I am in for the progress on this explorer. Keep it up.
