I am a beginner to all this car audio stuff and I need some help. I want to hookup my amp and subs by myself so I know how to do it again in the future. First off I have 2 subwoofers and a four channel amplifier. (2- 12" Kicker comps and a 4-channel 600 watt Profile amp. Its not anything big, but will make a little noise.) If someone could tell me how to wire these together or post some pictures of your related install that would be much appreciated. Also where does the remote wire connect to in my x. Thanks for any tips or pics.

Alright dude, if you want help, you have to give more info. Do you have an aftermarket head unit? If not, you will have to use speaker level inputs. You can attach the remote wire to the blue wire coming out the back of your head unit harness, or just put the wire into the radio fuse if you want to be lazy, either will work.

Also, we'll need to know if the speakers are 8, 4, or 2 ohms. Probably 4.

Are the speakers single voice coil, or dual voice coil?

What model amplifier do you have?

Is it bridgable?

Do you know the lowest ohm load it's rated for?

All of these things are important to get the best out of your setup, and to make sure you don't damage any of the components. :-)

2-12"kicker comps 4 ohm, single coil, 640xl california profile 600 watts, is bridgeable, headunit-pioneer 7600

Hmmn.. Can't seem to find anything about that particular head unit, so I'm going to make the assumption that it does have line outputs.

What you basically need to do, is run 2 things from your head unit, to the amplifier.

1) The blue "remote" wire from off the head unit. When the head unit is on, this has an ~12v signal, and is used to turn on the amplifier.

2) One, or two RCA audio connectors.

If your head unit has a "Subwoofer" output, you will probably want to use that, since it likely has settings for subwoofer volume, and crossover frequency etc.

However, if your head unit just has "front" and "rear" ouputs, you'll want to choose one, and use them. Also, if your amp doesn't have a crossover either, you'll need to install one before the amplifier.

The amplifier will also need a power wire. You'll need to run this from the battery, to wherever you install the amplifier. You MUST run a fuse, or circuit breaker BEFORE the firewall.

As far as how to hook the speakers up to the amp.

If you can, bridge the amp from 4 channels, to two. Then just hook-up each speaker to the amplifer. Which connectors to use, is usually specific to the amplifier, so you'll want to look at your users manual, or do some research to find out the correct way.

Hopefully, that should do the trick!

since they are single 4 ohms each, and the amp is 4 ohm stable bridged, you will want to bridge the front 2 channels to one sub, and the rear 2 channels to the other sub. you are going to want to match the gains as closely as possible.

Yeah! That's what I said. :p

Thanks a lot for all the info, its much appreciated. I'll probably get it all hooked up this week.
