I just got this truck for next to nothing. The engine is sound and rides beautifully. When I baby the accelerator and take it slow to bring it up to speed it runs with no problems. When I accelerate moderately to hard I get a loud hard knock that comes from under the truck. If I let off the gas or it comes up to speed and just coasts the knock goes away. This is an AWD vehicle, and I did replace all the u-joints and the propeller joint or the CV joint as it is known by some folks on the front drive shaft. I'm wondering it the problem is in the transfer case or the actual tranny itself. It only happens when the engine is moderately to hard accelerated. Oh yeah it has the 302 engine if that helps.

check your front and rear drive shaft u-joints and the transmission mount.

Like is mentioned in my original post I already replaced all u-joints including the CV joint in the front drive shaft. The problem was there before and after u-joint Replacment.

How is the front output bearing in the transfer case? And have you drained the fluid? Definitely check the vent tube while you are under there, I have seen problems there before.

I installed a new propeller joint on the from drive shaft about a month ago and the noise was still there. I decided to take the front drive shaft off to see if I could isolate the noise and the noise is completely gone. But much to my surprise I inspected the month old propeller joint and I found that one of the ball bearings in the joint was completely marred and it had made a groove in the seat, most of the others were nice and shiny and perfectly round. This one looked like there was some serious debris or something that ground it down. I have some pictures but I can't figure out how to post them here.

Any idea what could do this to a propellor joint with less than 1000 miles on it? Or did I perchance have a bad joint from Dorman to begin with?

I really could use some help here.

I've guessing the u-joint was defective. Dorman stuff is not know for it's quality.
