Vehicle is a 2000 Explorer XLS 4x4 with a manual transmission. Occasionally, it just won't go from neutral into a gear (or vice versa). There are no sounds or vibrations in the gear shifter. It simply feels like the shifter hits a brick wall. Double clutching doesn't seem to make a difference. If I turn off the engine, I can shift in (or out) of gear with no problem.

I'm hoping that someone has had similar symptoms and can provide some insight. Thanks in advance.

sounds like a clutch release related problem, you need to start with the clutch master and slave cylinders. how does the clutch pedal feel? resistance on pushing it down and engagement point when letting it up?

I'd also pull up the shifter plate and check the forks.
