2000 Mach radio gone bad...

I have a 2000 Eddie Bauer with the Mach audio system in it. The LCD on the radio does not come on most of the time and when it does it is faint. All the other parts... CD (changer), Radio, casset player work fine. Is there any way to remedy this without taking it to a service center? I have heard this is a fairly common problem and was wondering if anyone had a fix for it. Thanks!

If you go to the general explorations forum that was closed and search on "radio display", you'll find the fixes that have worked for others, something about a heat shield and resistors, some other web sites will sell the fix if you google it. Mine needs it too, but haven't gotten to it yet.

I did the radio fix

There's a site online where they sell the "fix" for $20. It is basically instructions for resoldering many solder joint on the LCD power board and lifting up some of the high wattage resistors. If you're good at soldering go for it, worked for me.
