I called tow different Ford Parts Dealers and got conflicting information.
One said used motorcraft Mercon V
other dealer said LV

I saw a youtube channel of a master mechanic and he said not to use Mercon V as it will mess up the transfer case??
I know it is 1.3 oz of fluid.
I have drained the transfer case and tonight I want to add correct fluid...

Mercon. Not V, not LV.

Mercon V in the transmission and PS, regular Mercon in the transfer case.

LV is ‘low viscosity’ and was created in the late aughts.

I have a handful of Motorcraft Mercon V quarts, and they say ‘do not use in transfer cases’ plain as day on the back label. A quick google reveals that Mercon V has killed at least a few transfer cases.

You'll find it labeled "Dex/Merc". I believe it will take a bit over a quart, fill it until it begins to flow back out the fill plug hole

Old ford page stating lv not for use in transfer cases. "Use xl12"

Ford discontinues xl12, changes "spec" and now suggests lv. :dunno:

from this site

1 quart Ford Motorcraft® XL-12 Transfer Case Fluid

This is a confusing subject to say the least. I'd use amsoil merc3

No Mercon V. I'm surprised a dealer don't know that.
