2000 XLS
Hey quick question guys, Im looking for ideas on what to do with the plastic molding on my 2000 XLS. the truck is white, and i love the plastic molding look. But the grey is discolored from the 10 years of wear. I saw one post where a guy painted the molding with spray on bed liner. I like the idea repainting them as opposed to removing them then bondo'ing the body.

any ideas guys?

Krylon Fusion works pretty good with painting the plastic trim.

I used it for painting my bumper plastics and the cowl under the wipers. Others have also done so with good results, it will eventually fade and not hold up like professional painting but makes it look good for awhile.

with the fusion has anyone tried the clear UV coat for it? maybe to lengthen the results

Here is a thread on the painting, Clicky And not sure of the UV coat....I would imagine it would definitely help, I didn't think of it when I painted mine.

cool man, thanks for the link. i searched but i prob didnt use any good search words.

Little bit of sanding and 2 coats, the lining was only 50$ for a gallon and a textured roller. You can get new rollers at lowes for like 5$, got the liner at Meijers, its kinda like a walmart or publix if your not familiar, only tip is after you do it spray it all down with UV protective clear coat spray paint. I had never done it before but it comes out looking pro so easy and its been 1 year now, still going great even through a harsh winter and goin into its second.

thats awesome man. looks rugged! i love it. this may be the route i go.

yours looks just like mine the latest thing ive done it put a full length console in and silver/white gauges out of a 2001 sport, looks great on our trucks ill put up some pics later

im wanting a newer console. mine has the raisable console armrest that has plastic on the bottom... from what i understand its a common failure point on our vehicle. i have looked into the metal replacement that runs about 45-55... (and mine is broken, any weight at all and it floors itself.

also i went back to teh other post that has the bedliner spray on it.. i like how he painted part of the body with it.. gives it an avalanche type look... heres a pic...

but yeah man our vehicles look identical. i like the brush guard you have on the front, i was looking into that or a bull guard with skidplate. and im wanting to change out the headlight housing to one with clear lenses. possibly a 2'' lift or just maxing out the tires.

ahhhh the zapv! yeah thats where i got the idea along time ago, i found the bar in front in a junkyard on a isuzu passport of sum bs for about 20$ theyre stock on those things from like 91 92, a few L brackets n its good. Im going to make my own roof rack here in a bit still waitin to get those pics up, ill get em l8r

yeah i was thinking of searching through a junkyard or a pick'n'pull to find a brush guard. that and a 2'' lift and some new tires are my first big upgrades for the exterior. for 20$ that brush guard is pretty sweet.

so youv had the liner on for over a year now huh... Im still considering this if I ever get time to actually do it. Is any of it flaking off or anything like that? One person told me it doesnt bond well with the plastic trim.

Oh and one other question, did you take off the trim to paint? Or just mask off the areas you didnt want to paint and go at it on the vehicle?
