New Explorer to add to the garage:
Specs:
4.0 SOHC
5r55e
2WD
3.73 gears
Graphite Leather
Sunroof
266k miles
Audiophile Sound
Engine apparently has been replaced as well as the transmission. I picked it up for a song with a working SOHC with no "Death Rattle" and a leaking transmission line. Also all the electronics work, minus the overhead console, and as a cool bonus, the A/C works!! (pun intended)
The bad:
3 different brands of tires
Ball Joints and Tie Rods Shot
Body Mount Bushings Shot
Interior Needs Work
This is the poorly patched transmission line that initiated the sale. Looks like they used some very thin rubber tubing and it just split, dumping the ATF.
I replaced with 100psi oil tubing and two hose clamps per side.
Tranny dipstick also leaked, again a poorly patched seal job. Along with that were poorly tightened fluid pan bolts and missing bolts in the transmission mount cross brace.
All in all, not bad. Its good (and sad) that I have made all these mistakes before and know how to fix them.
Mods:
Torsion twist
Step bars removed
Future Mods:
4wd Conversion (Manual or Auto)
Warrior Shackles
1" Body lift
HID's
Sport Trac wheels
31's
Message center
4WD Conversion:
I have the 3.73 D35 from Red than I can install. I just replace the control arms and add the hubs and CV shafts in when I do the front end work. Still up in the air whether I do a manual or another 5r55e. I'm thinking of throwing in a 1354E so I have less wiring and I don't lose my center console if I do the automatic or do the twin stick with a manual and ditch the message center.
