Engine apparently has been replaced as well as the transmission. I picked it up for a song with a working SOHC with no "Death Rattle" and a leaking transmission line. Also all the electronics work, minus the overhead console, and as a cool bonus, the A/C works!! (pun intended)

The bad:

3 different brands of tires
Ball Joints and Tie Rods Shot
Body Mount Bushings Shot
Interior Needs Work

This is the poorly patched transmission line that initiated the sale. Looks like they used some very thin rubber tubing and it just split, dumping the ATF. :wtf:

I replaced with 100psi oil tubing and two hose clamps per side.

Tranny dipstick also leaked, again a poorly patched seal job. Along with that were poorly tightened fluid pan bolts and missing bolts in the transmission mount cross brace.

All in all, not bad. Its good (and sad) that I have made all these mistakes before and know how to fix them.

Mods:
Torsion twist
Step bars removed

Future Mods:
4wd Conversion (Manual or Auto)
Warrior Shackles
1" Body lift
HID's
Sport Trac wheels
31's
Message center

4WD Conversion:
I have the 3.73 D35 from Red than I can install. I just replace the control arms and add the hubs and CV shafts in when I do the front end work. Still up in the air whether I do a manual or another 5r55e. I'm thinking of throwing in a 1354E so I have less wiring and I don't lose my center console if I do the automatic or do the twin stick with a manual and ditch the message center.

Update:

The OSS sensor on the transmission is throwing codes causing the transmission not to shift properly. Also I am pulling bank 1 and 2 lean codes from the PCM and I apparently have an oil pressure issue.

Got the engine on Sky running better as it was idling really high at 700rpm. Wound up cleaning a few ounces of build up from the throttle body. So I Seafoamed it and changed the air filter as well. Apparently the engine was choking so badly from the buildup that somebody adjusted the idle screw out to get the engine to stop stalling. After the clean the idle sat at 1300rpm! Took quite a bit of adjustment to get it back to 650rpm and now she idles smoothly.

Transmission is coming out, stupid thing was either rebuilt incorrectly or it just grenaded itself. If I don't rev the engine before moving into 2nd on the selector it stalls the engine.

Did some interior work tonight. The driver's side airbag is still drying.

So its decided. Red's drive train, sans axles, is going into Sky. Red will be getting the V8 with a 4406 and Sky's engine and POS tranny are getting parted out.

Sky will still be getting Red's old 3.73 D35 and front drive shaft.

What I still need for Sky:

Upper Ball Joints
Lower Ball Joints
Hubs
CV shafts
4x4 Sport rear Drive shaft
Short console
Tie rod inners and outers

Did some bodywork on Sky. Had a really bad rust hole in the roof underneath the rails. Took me two hours to get it patched.

I am far from happy with my welder. It really is not setup for this work and the weld shows it. I am gonna have to use bondo to fill the little pockets, then prime and paint. Fortunately this area is covered by the roof rail which should cover it up.

Also took some time tonight to fix the overhead console. Had to re solder the resister and fix the wiring for the lights as the traces used to power them fell apart.

Kinda bringing this thread back up. A few months back Dan used this explorer as a trade in at Bandit Customs. The transmission and motor came out, complete rebuild on the transmission, rear timing cassette was installed on motor along with all new seals. We restored the interior, put a good set of matching rubber and a new Windshild. The explorer has been resold and the new owner is enjoying it very much.
