2001 explorer trouble starting

2001 explorer

transmission shift indicater has some play , at times will not start in neutral
gear lever must be pushed all the way over to park then sometimes it will start in neutral . sometimes no nothing like a dead battery ,sometime just a click


could this be a starter solenoid or a neutral safety switch

Ck the bolts at the base of the steering column where the shifter cable mounts to shifter tube. There are 2 torx 30 bolts that become loose and cause your concern.
