2001 Ford Explorer Sport type of tranny

I have a 2001 Ford Explorer sport 4.0 2wd I'm trying to find out what type of transmission I have. The one I have now is smoked and I'm trying to see which one it is so I can find another
The code on door is D

5R55_ Not sure of the last letter 5R55E are common, but I don't recall if the 2001 is an E. I'd look for one out of a 2001 to avoid possible electrical connector differences. If you take your VIN number and look at the vehicle details on Ford's ETIS site if will probably say to make sure.
