2001 limited AWD 5.0 what next

Just bought a 2001 limited v8 AWd for the wife and want to mod it some. I'm a mustang guy so i know some tricks but they don't seem to apply to my truck. What can i do. I already purchased a cold intake. Can i add a gt-40 spacer 1"? Also i heard about a brown wire mod if someone could explain to me. I don't plan on lifting it but would like to maybe lower it. Also do the 5.0 come with roller rockers? What coil packs and where can i get aftermarket plug wires for the coil pack 5.0? I'm trying to get some better MPG and HP. Any help and sugesstions are appreciated. Sorry for being so long.:D

You can check my sig for links, I have some 5.0 goodies-

The brown wire mod won't work for AWD, only the v6 4x4. You can do a t case swap if you want selectable 4wd. There is a link for that in my sig.

I have the intake spacer and love it.

Biggest improvement for HP and MPG will come with Torque Monster Headers-

Search for JTSmith's stuff, he has plenty of 5.0 go fast stuff and his is lowered.

The brown wire mod pertains to the 4wd transfer-case. It does not apply to the AWD.

Taylor Wire makes a nice set of wires for the 5.0 Explorer/Mountaineer.
Summit Racing is where I got mine. They will have to order them as they don't stock them, but it will only take a couple of weeks.

One of the best performance mods is a set of Torque Monster headers. They are a little pricey but the only ones worth using.

Threads with 5.0 in the tittle always get my attention, seems like there are more and more lately getting on here. I hope we get a bunch of modded 5.0s on here.
 






You might also try MSD coilpacks, although I have heard good things about the Accel's also.

I would say, with Torquemonster headers -your intake and spacer, some coilpacks and an aftermarket flash tuner--you will be off to a good start.

Isn't that the truth, mine *****es about the choppy idle all the time. I really need to flash the PCM and raise the idle speed a little.

I got my Accel coil packs from Summit. They were in stock and shipped fast.
 












Thanks everyone for the help. I'll probally stay away from the headers for now. But i'll check on the coil packs, wires, and intake spacer. DO these 5.0's have roller rockers? Also what cam do these come with aren't they the b303 cam.

They do not come with roller rockers from the factory, just plain old stamped steel bolt down 1.6:1 rockers that are, in reality, closer to 1.55:1 rockers. The stock cam is no where near a B303, it is smaller than the old HO 5.0 cam, in fact. It will give you about .421 lift with 1.6:1 rockers, the HO cam was about .444 lift and the E303 is a respectable .498 lift with 1.6:1 rockers. Step up to 1.7:1 and the net lift is .531 with the same duration numbers.

I would really rethink my decision to not start with headers, this is where the 5.0 X's need the most help. I'd do the coil packs last, as the factory units are really quite adequate up to 5500 RPM or so. You'll never get there with the factory exhaust manifolds.

Actually, they are 1.6:1 stamped roller rockers.
