My 2001 Ranger had not been driven much over the past month as I had an extended vacation.

I fired her up yesterday and the power steering now shudders at low and medium speeds. She makes a heck of a noise when I turn the steeering wheel with the truck stationary.

The fluid is at the appropriate level and there are no leaks.

Any ideas?

A little trick I learned to stop steering shudder is to wet the ground under the front tires and then turn the steering wheel lock to lock until the shudder goes away. It happened when I lifted my truck and put larger tires on. Just keep turning until it goes away.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try.

The serp belt broke and had to be replaced, now I have a shudder in the steering and the dealership said it was air in the line. How do you get the air out?

IF it is air in the line, you 'burp' it out by starting the vehicle, then turning the steering wheel all the way to one side as far as it goes, then turn it the other direction all the way, the repeat.
Hope that solves the shudder.
