I have a 2001 Sport-Trac with 49K miles on it. There is a terrible squeaking/groaning sound coming from the left side. The sound can be started by bouncing the truck or by slightly rotating the steering wheel back and forth. When i got under the car it sounded (and felt) like it was coming from the lower ball joint. Does this sound like a practical explanation for my noise? I have lubricated the control arms, sway bar bushings, and have checked the shock for correct tightness.
If so, can someone give me some insight as to the complexity to replace one? I have done a search and it seems like there are at least a couple suspension designs, each requiring different approaches. I am relatively adept in repairing cars and have tools (compressor, air tools, etc). Insight would be appreciated.
