Although I've had Explorers in the past, I just got a 2001 Sport Trac and it has what seems to be a somewhat common trans issue. The previous owner told me that it needs a "servo piston for intermediate and overdrive." He also said that this is located on the passenger side of the trans and is accessible without removing the trans. He said that it has two snap rings for removal. After test driving, the O/D indicator flashes and it won't shift into O/D. It seems to operate fine without it, but I know that will affect the mileage, so I'd like to fix it.
Beneath the trucklet, I was not able to see anything that looks like I can access it, so I think I'm going to have to remove the mount to see anything. I have a lift so that will be easier than laying on my back, but I want to get as much info as possible before I start wrenching. Can anyone provide some additional info, perhaps a pic so I know what to look for? Thank you.
