- 2001 Explorer Sport 4wd
I have been having problems getting the transfer case to engage. My transfer case switch reads 2wd, 4wd high, 4wd low. I found moisture in the shift motor cleaned it out etc and reinstalled it. It worked a few times and then nothing. I swapped it for a new one and the same thing happens. My auto x-ray scan tool registers no request being sent for 4wd low range when trying to engage 4 low with transmission in neutral and brake on. I hear the relays in the passenger side front kick panel click most of the time when I move the selector switch. Sometimes it seems that there is a unusually long delay between moving the switch and hearing the click of the relays.Has anyone else seen these odd intermittent times when it works? I've ohmed the switch and it reads correctly from what I see here in the forums. Does anyone have a complete wiring schematic for a 2001 explorer sport? Or better yet a trouble shooting procedure from the factory manual to follow to diagnose the problem? The vehicle now has about 118k on it and still runs great other than the transfer case not wanting to engage.
