2002 Explorer V8 AWD 120K tranny slipping...

It first started a month ago. The car would shift hard from 2nd to 3rd. Then I had to let off the gas to get it to shift from 2nd to third. The check engine and transmission lights came on. Now the car will only go into 2nd gear if I manually put it there. All the other gears the truck tries to move but it just slips. The transmission light is no longer on, but the check engine light is on. The car will drive fine all day in second gear. Any suggestions?

It could be a solenoid problem or you need to adjust the adjustment band on for 2nd gear... you should take it to transmission shop to see if the can pull the codes from the transmission light. That will tell you loads what is going on.
